What is an assisted living residence?

An assisted living residence is a housing facility for those with disabilities or for adults who can’t or chose not to live on their own.

What is short-term memory care?

Short-term memory care is a type of care where the patient receives 24-hour care with specialized staff giving memory enhancing activities and therapies. Short-term memory care also has secure environments for patients to actively treat their memory issues with the help of experts at our senior care facility in Virginia Beach.

How do I know if my loved one needs assisted living or memory care support?

The timing is going to be different for everyone, but seeing how well your loved one’s memory is working is important. Check to see if they might have Alzheimer’s, dementia, or other memory impairment issues. If they do, memory care support is an excellent option to help them work on and regain their memory. If your loved one cannot function on their own, such as cook for themselves, dress themselves, or go about doing daily activities, then they will be much better off after being placed in an assisted living environment, where a specialized staff can help them do basic activities. If your loved one is also prone to injury or accidents, or is disabled, our senior care facility in Virginia Beach is an excellent place to make sure they get the care they need.

What is the cost for an assisted living community?

The average cost of assisted living is around $4,300 per month according to Genworth’s 2020 Cost of Care Survey. The cost will vary based on location, accommodations, and overall level of care needed. An annual estimate is around $30,000 to $70,000. Medicare unfortunately does not pay for long-term living, but certain Medicaid clauses may help to cover the cost. You can also purchase Long-Term Care Insurance, which can help assist in paying for the cost of assisted living.

What services are included in the monthly fee?

Assisted living monthly fees include rent, utilities, dining services, housekeeping, personal care, and many other services, including gyms or personal trainers. Additional charges may be added if the client uses services such as room service, guest meals, transportation, or personal laundry.

Is transportation to medical appointments included in the cost of care?

Transportation to and from care appointments is usually covered in a facility’s monthly fee. There may be constraints on when the vehicles may be used as well as how often in the week they are used.
